Chapter 2: Peptide Vaccination in Tübingen

Over the past two months, I’ve made two trips to Tübingen, Germany, for the next part of my treatment: my personalized peptide vaccination.

In July, my mother, Ewa, joined me for the first visit. Over four consecutive days, I received my first four vaccination sessions. Each day involved four injections, including an immune-system stimulator. The injections are surprisingly painful, a bit like a strong bee sting but fortunately the discomfort doesn’t last too long. A special thank you to my mother Ewa for spending an entire week with me in Tübingen. This means a lot to me.

In August, I returned to Tübingen for my fifth vaccination day. This time, my good friend Bernard offered to join me and drive, which I really appreciated (Thanks again Berrie!!!).

So far, everything has gone well. My sixth and seventh vaccination sessions are planned for September and October. After the seventh session, the team will assess the vaccine-specific T-cell immune response, in other words; whether my immune system is recognizing and responding to the vaccine as we hope.

In the meantime, our daughters now also know that I have cancer. We tell them that things are going well, and thankfully, that is currently the truth. My scans remain encouraging and the treatments appear to be doing what we hope they will do.

I also want to once again thank everyone who is supporting me and my family throughout this journey. We try to thank everyone personally, but it is difficult to fully express how grateful we are for all the support, messages and donations we continue to receive.

We are now incredibly close to reaching our GoFundMe goal: just €20,000 to go. Reaching this goal would bring us very close to covering all the treatments we have planned for 2026. So far, we have already spent more than €120,000 on treatment.
